✅ Description:

Amoxicillin + Clavulanic Acid is used to treat bacterial infections in the body that affect the skin, soft tissues, lungs, ears, urinary tract, and nasal sinuses. It should be mentioned that viral infections like the flu and the common cold are not treated by this medication.

Moxaclav 0.6 IV Injection consists of two medicines: Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin acts by destroying the outer protein layer, thereby killing the bacteria (bactericidal action). Clavulanic acid inhibits the enzyme beta-lactamase, which prevents bacteria from destroying the efficacy of amoxicillin. As a result, the action of Clavulanic acid allows Amoxycillin to work better and kill the bacteria. Amoxicillin + Clavulanic Acid does not work against infections caused by viruses, including colds and flu.

The dose of Amoxicillin + Clavulanic Acid can vary depending on your condition and the severity of the infection. Also, it is recommended to complete the course of medicine even if you feel better as it is an antibiotic, and leaving it in between may lead to even severe infection that will stop responding to the antibiotic as well (antibiotic resistance). The common side effects of Amoxicillin + Clavulanic Acid include vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea. Everyone may not experience the above side effects. In case of any discomfort, speak with a doctor.

Before starting Amoxicillin + Clavulanic Acid, please inform your doctor if you have any allergies (against any antibiotic) or kidney or liver problems. Do not take Amoxicillin + Clavulanic Acid on your own as self-medication since it may lead to antibiotic resistance in which antibiotics fail to act against specific bacterial infections. Amoxicillin + Clavulanic Acid is safe for children if prescribed by a doctor; the dose and duration may vary depending on the child’s weight and the severity of the infection. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are taking and about your health condition to rule out any unpleasant side effects.

✔️ How does Moxaclav 0.6 IV Injection work?

Moxaclav 0.6 IV is a combination of two medicines: Amoxycillin and Clavulanic Acid. Amoxycillin is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor which reduces resistance and enhances the activity of Amoxycillin against bacteria.

✔️ Side Effects of Moxaclav 0.6 IV Injection
  • Uncommon, usually mild, and transitory: diarrhea, pseudomembranous colitis, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, candidiasis.
  • Rare: hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice (usually reversible), urticarial and erythematous rashes, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, exfoliative dermatitis, angioedema, anaphylaxis.
✔️ Quick Suggestions:
  • You have been prescribed this combination medicine to treat bacterial infections even if they have developed resistance.
  • Finish the prescribed course, even if you start to feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection come back and harder to treat.
  • Diarrhea may occur as a side effect. Taking probiotics along with Moxaclav 0.6 IV may help. Talk to your doctor if you notice bloody stools or develop abdominal cramps.
  • Take it with food and plenty of fluids to avoid an upset stomach.

✔️ Pharmacology
  • Pharmacodynamic properties: Combines the antibiotic Amoxicillin with the beta-lactamase inhibitor Clavulanic Acid. Amoxicillin is susceptible to degradation by beta-lactamases, while Clavulanic Acid inactivates a wide range of beta-lactamase enzymes, extending the antibiotic spectrum.
  • Pharmacokinetic properties: Both components reach peak serum levels about an hour after oral administration. Absorption is optimized at the start of a meal. Serum levels double with double dosing. Both components have low serum binding (about 70% remains free).
